Outrider...the band...
Outrider is a guitar-based rock band that is ready for the world. Their street-level, original songs combine with their re-workings of cover tunes (that range from classic rock to alternative) captivates their audiences and provide an energizing balance between new and old. An Outrider concert features intense guitar and high-flying vocals backed-up by the driving groove of bass and drums. This is counter-balanced by delicate and meditative ballads. Their shows work. This band works.
Outrider was formed in 1995 by the fusion of several established Toronto-area bands. Tim Huff and Steve Kennedy of "Double Edge" had played together for more than a decade when they were joined by John Russell in "Landslide". Long time friend, Peter Bowman joined after gigging in "RXN".
It just works...
Together, they gel into a cohesive and creative group, their on-stage manner, while intense, is confident and comfortable. As musicians, they feed off each other with an instinctive ease borne of friendship. They read the crowd's emotions with the eyes of experienced performers and respond by adapting their song orders to make the most of each concert. Outrider's ability to adapt has seen it fit successfully into a wide variety of venues, including Universities, high schools, clubs, drop-in centres, camps, festivals, and even prisons. Members of Outrider have toured across North America and even played several concerts in Russia.
Most of the band's lyrics (written by vocalist Tim Huff) reflect the band's desire to recognize the pain and sorrow in today's world and meet it with hope and compassion. The band members share a desire, based on their own experiences, to see people empowered. They have, and continue to, work individually outside of the band in a number of ways that foster hope and dignity in people.
